If you are looking to get into crypto, the best and easiest way to buy crypto such as Bitcoin and Ethereum is to purchase it from a reputable exchange. Depending on the country that you reside, this can be a different exchange. In the United States, there are plenty of options available. The major exchanges are Coinbase.com, Gemini.com and Kraken.com.
Of the three exchanges, I would recommend starting with Kraken. Kraken’s fees are slightly lower than Coinbase and has an excellent selection of coins to purchase (it is the only US exchange that offers Monero!). The exchange has excellent security and has never been hacked. They were one of the first exchanges to demonstrate “proof of reserves”, meaning that customer’s deposits were held one to one.
After creating an account, you can fund it using a wire transfer or ACH transfer from your bank. Initial withdrawal limits are 5,000 USD per day, however, that limit can be increased with additional personal information provided to the exchange.
In the next article, I’ll provide step by step instructions to purchase on Kraken. Once purchased I would also recommend withdrawing it to an offline wallet so that you will have custody of your crypto.
