📝 Overview 📝
Vertcoin is as fork of Bitcoin that was launched back in 2014 – so a more established coin.
It was launched to be an ASIC resistant version that could not be mined with these machines. It started out with the Scrypt Adaptive N algorithm.
However, this had to be changed a number of times when the chain forked in response to the threat from the ASICs. It switched algorithm to Lyra2RE and eventually to Lyra2REv3 on Feb 1st 2019.
They also have released their “one-click miner” in order to increase decentralisation on their network. This is a simple mining client that anyone can install on their windows machines.
Vertcoin has made sure that the networks is compatible with the lightning network. It has implemented Segregated witness and they could also provide stealth addresses. They are also going to be upgrading the platform to handle atomic swaps.
Vertcoin is a community driven project and as such, does not have a really big team. They have volunteer developers but these members have a strong development background. The project has also got many ties with MIT.
The team has been active as can be seen from their regular GitHub commits. The community is also really engaged and promote the project at every corner.
VTC are the native tokens on the protocol. They were caught up in the 2017 bull run and reached some really unprecendented levels. However, the bear market that followed brought them down considerably.
VTC is listed on a limited number of exchanges including Bittrex, Upbit, Poloniex etc. There is also limited volume on these exchanges which could mean reduced liquidity.
In terms of storage, you can use the native Vertcoin electrum wallet which can be used a light wallet. If you are looking for a wallet that has mobile support then you can consider the wallet that is on offer from Coinomi.
